Short answer for dealers: the overwhelming majority of e-bikes sold in Europe are manufactured in China, with final assembly increasingly split between Chinese factories and European assembly hubs. The useful question is not "which country" but "which factory, under which quality system, with which paperwork, and where does the stock sit afterwards".
What the supply map actually looks like
- China. Frames, motors, batteries, controllers and complete bikes, concentrated in the coastal manufacturing provinces. This is where scale, tooling and battery supply chains live, and it is where AURORIDE builds.
- Europe. Final assembly, wheel building, and PDI (pre-delivery inspection). European assembly reduces lead time and simplifies after-sales, but the components still largely come from Asia.
- Taiwan and Japan. Higher-end drivetrain and motor components that appear in premium specifications.
A "European brand" is therefore usually a European specification, quality system and warranty promise wrapped around an Asian-built product. That is not a criticism — it is the structure of the industry, and the honest dealers are the ones who can describe it to a customer without flinching.
What to look for in the factory, not the country
- Quality system. ISO 9001 as a floor; IATF 16949 if the plant also supplies automotive. Ask for certificate numbers and check them.
- Battery traceability. Cell batch, pack serial, test record. This is what turns a recall from a crisis into a phone call.
- Conformity files per model. Declaration of conformity plus supporting test reports, held by an identifiable economic operator in the EU.
- Capacity planning. Can they hold your specification stable across twelve months, or does every container quietly differ?
- Audit access. Will they host you, or a third-party inspector, on a normal working day?
