Mobility Scooter Wholesale 2026: What October M&A Means for OEM Buyers
Mobility scooter wholesale has entered a capital-driven phase: on 30 September 2026 Wandercraft closed its acquisition of Ekso Bionics, a 14 October market forecast puts the patient-handling equipment market at USD 17.29 billion by 2031, and on 16 October India's Ostrich Mobility signed an MoU with US-based Pride Mobility.
What changed in October 2026?
Five events in three weeks show capital and distribution consolidating around rehabilitation mobility — the category that includes mobility scooters, power wheelchairs and medical exoskeletons. None of them is a regulation, and that is the point: the market is reorganising faster than the rulebook.
- 1 October 2026 — Wandercraft announced its acquisition of Ekso Bionics, closed 30 September 2026, from a subsidiary of ChronoScale Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq: CHRN); terms were not disclosed and B. Riley Securities advised the seller.
- 7 October 2026 — US complex-rehabilitation provider Numotion was reported acquired by Hanger, an orthotics and prosthetics company (Mobility Management).
- 14 October 2026 — an industry forecast published via GlobeNewswire projected the patient-handling equipment market to grow from USD 13.04 billion in 2026 to USD 17.29 billion by 2031, a 5.77% CAGR.
- 16 October 2026 — Ostrich Mobility, an Indian electric-wheelchair maker, signed an MoU with Pride Mobility to bring Pride's rehabilitation products across India (Mathrubhumi).
- 23 October 2026 — US lawmakers including Representatives Debbie Dingell and Brian Fitzpatrick urged CMS to reform Medicare CRT reimbursement, targeting the ban on preventive-maintenance coverage and the 12-month prescription rule for repairs (HomeCare Magazine).
How big is the rehabilitation equipment market?
Rehabilitation equipment is any device that restores or supports human movement — in trade statistics it spans wheelchairs, mobility aids, patient lifts, transfer devices and, increasingly, wearable robots. The 14 October forecast adds USD 4.25 billion of new market value over five years, and links the growth to home healthcare, elder care and rehabilitation services rather than hospital procurement. That matters for wholesale buyers: demand is moving to where consumers actually live.
Reimbursement policy is adjusting in the same direction. The 23 October letter to CMS argues that Medicare currently pays only after a component fails, which delays repairs for customised power wheelchairs. If CMS adopts the requested reforms, service and parts work becomes reimbursable — a direct revenue line for distributors.
Why should mobility scooter OEM buyers care?
A medical exoskeleton is a wearable robot that assists standing and walking; the combined Wandercraft–Ekso portfolio now covers the EksoNR and Indego Personal systems alongside Atalante X and Eve, in use at more than 700 rehabilitation centres worldwide. Clinical robots and mobility scooters share the same end customer, the same distribution channel and increasingly the same investor logic — that is why an exoskeleton deal is a demand signal for the wholesale scooter business.
For buyers pricing 2027 orders, USD 4.25 billion of market growth is the wave to ride — but it also attracts new entrants, which pushes margin pressure upstream to the factory. A mobility scooter OEM partner chosen now will determine whether you capture that growth or compete inside it.
What must OEM buyers do now?
- Shortlist suppliers that can document destination-market certification for each model, and ask for test reports before placing any wholesale order.
- Reserve service-parts inventory now: if CMS reform expands reimbursable repairs, parts availability becomes a competitive edge for US distributors.
- Watch distribution consolidation — the Numotion–Hanger deal shows referral networks can change hands, and wholesale agreements signed today should survive that.
- Treat emerging markets as partnership plays: the Ostrich–Pride MoU is a template for entering India with a local channel instead of a warehouse.
- Re-audit your SKU mix toward the ageing-at-home segment, where the 5.77% CAGR is concentrated.
